how to do complete uninstall of SD 5.0??
hi, i tried to uninstall SD 5.0 so i can reinstall SD 4.0, but i got an error message when i tried to delete to last remaining folder from program files. the message was" can not delete syslog.dad: access denied. make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use". how can i get rid of this folder. i want to have a fresh start when i reinstall SD 4.0. being a long time SD user on 3 of my PCs, i must say i am very disappointed with new 5.0 release. it has been a nightmare since i upgraded it. fortunately, i only installed it on 2 of my PCs. both suffered from it. i do not think it has anything to do with nortons or mcaffee because i have nortons in one PC and mcaffee in the other one. i think i will wait for a few months until all the bugs are out of it before i upgrade again to SD 5.0. robert

It looks like some of the SD files are still in use, the reason you are receiving the message that it is write protected. You can do one of 2 things:
Important: Make sure you exit SD before trying to uninstall or remove files.
* Log into safemode and remove this file. (Have you uninstalled SDv5 already and trying to delete the remaining folder? and thats when your getting the message or during the uninstallation phase.
* Re-install SDv5 and uninstall again. Check the Spyware doctor directory once you have uninstalled and remove the folder if it is still there.
btw which version of SD did you install? the 174?

Just did a check on syslog.dad and this is not an SD file. I also tried a google search and nothing came up. Not sure if you should delete this. Where is the file located?

hi
i do not know where it is located. it simply says on the top " error deleting file or folder" then the rest as mentioned before. so, it may then not be safe to delete this folder in safe mode?? robert

Probably be best not to delete this file until you can figure out what it is. Could be related to one of your applications and deleting this may cause problems with that application.
Just leave it and see if anyone else knows what it is.
