Some confusion
I've been following the threads concerning problems with SD5 and am now confused. First, we are being advised to download and install 174, but some members are claiming that you also get the antivirus with it (I'm using Norton AV and don't want another program conflicting with it). Is this true or not? Second, I'm currently using version 5.0.0.172 (why can't it just be 5.172: how many revisions are anticipated?); my last update apparently gave me a site guard download which seemed to have removed site guard. Reading that Site Guard and Email Guard are causing problems (I still have email guard), I guess that's why it's been removed. However, now malicious cookies (or usually, tracking cookies) are no longer removed. Isn't that why I purchased SD?
And finally, to download an update, I currently have to disable both my Norton Firewall and Norton AV (I didn't have to do this with version 4). Is this going to be fixed or what? And, whereas in version 4 there was a database update every day, I'm finding very infrequent database updates now: is the program being kept current?

Hi
With regard to your siteguard question, SDv5 does not stop cookies in real-time but will remove them during a scan as the scanner is unaffected.
There is a problem with smart update and Norton products and it has been reported http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44951
Smart updates have become slightly less frequent recently, this is due to the devlopment team working on bug fixes, frequent updates will return when most bugs are resolved
SDv4 is still being kept current as this is the only version that supports Windows98
Hope that helps

Yes, thanks.
I understand a new version is due next week which 'will fix all these problems'. Let's hope!

Please be aware that you can download SD as a standalone package, ie, without the AV. However, if you have activated the AV plugin with previous Spyware Doctor v5, then this information is stored with your license subscription. Therefore, if you install SD, it will also advise you to install the AV plugin. If you wish to disable this feature after you have installed this plugin please go to the following site to remove it: http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/manageplugin/
We have released SD 5.0.0.174, for more info, please see: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46290
