Default Beware Pc Tools Antivirus!!

I DL'd SD 5 V.174 and no problems,,,yet. I did notice one small variation however,

No Antivirus.

Upon Speaking to one of the support people I found that the Antivirus section of SD 5 was removed and is now being made available for free. I found out why...

RESULTS FROM INSTALLING PCT ANTIVIRUS:

1. It would not allow multiple start programs to load and gave no pop ups as to why, OR ways to allow the programs to load.

2. Used 100 percent CPU, pinned, flat out and didn't drop.

3. Startup programs that did load took over half an hour.

4. Was freezing up every few seconds.

and here's the fun one.

5.BLUESCREENED MY PC.

IS THIS @%#$%# FIASCO EVER GOING TO END?

Well over to the other forum,
now I noticed my keyboard is freezing on this post,,, wonderful.

PULL IT TOGETHER GUYS~ I'm starting to feel like a PC 'Tool.'

Kroenig.

With regards to your query could you please try the following steps to try to isolate the problem.

1. Turn the OnGuard feature ON and then turn all of the individual tools to OFF.

2. Turn all of the Tools back ON one at a time to see if you can isolate the problem tool specific to your PC.

Once the tool has been isolated, please let us know which tool is causing the problem and turn the tool off.

Please make sure you stay up to date with the latest Smart Updates so that your issues will be resolved as soon as we have made a fix available via our Smart Update.

Default Antivirus not working in XP OR 2K (Bluescreened)

Just had to uninstall SD Antivirus from my 2K machine, the second of two machines it didn't work on the other being my XP laptop.

On the laptop it actually bluescreened it, on the 2K Desktop it installed and started to scan, but as soon as I tried to stop the scan all the buttons ghosted and it said 'Cancelling Scan' for almost twenty minutes before I found a way to get it off my monitor. It wasn't even taking up any resources, it seemed the GUI was in some sort of idle mode that wouldn't leave my screen.

Ridiculous.

First SD 5, now this. The response to my query about the bluescreen situation was the following statement from TS. Has anyone else found any 'tools' in Antivirus?

Default Possible "Tools" explanation

Hi Kroenig

I think that "Support" thought (as I did) that you were talking about SD with Antivirus, which has a "Tools" menu, not PC Tools Antivirus Free Edition (PCTAV), which doesn't.

Re: PCTAV problems (I know first two are obvious but you can never assume anything.)
1/. Did you download PCTAV from: http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/ ?
2/. Have you changed any settings from the defaults?
3/. Are you sure there are no other active (or even incompletely uninstalled) AV or other security software running concurrently?

PCTAV Free is certainly not trouble-free but I've been happily using it on 2 XP-Pro machines since January with only minor issues, nothing like the catastrophe you've described.

Default Consistently more erratic

functioning of the operating system has resulted in the end product; obligatory blue screens. Uninstallation of the products SD and SD AV have resulted in a minor stabilization of the systems described above however they one continues to operate in a manner almost identical to when Win 3.1 was running low on memory i.e. a 'stickiness' of the GUI. The roller mouse won't scroll consistently instead it freezes and starts, freezes and starts. The entirely of the operating system displays the above symptoms in nearly all programs on my system. The GUI freezes and starts, freezes and starts. The two bluescreens alluded to memory issues but I've DL'd nearly every notable memory testing program available and nothing has turned up after hours of passes in each.

I've done hard disk checks from numerous programs and also run SFC on the OS. I've gone through the registry looking for suspicious characters all the while each installation of SD becoming more and more unstable.

Glad I wasn't too attached to my configuaration, because it looks like a reinstall is in order. But this time I'm not including SD anything.
