Default New Version?

Today my PcAV said was a new version out but I see no announcment here or anything on the website telling me whats new in the new version.

Is this the new release or just a routine update?

Peter.

Hi echoman,

New version of PC Tools AntiVirus i.e, version 3.1.0.14 was released on 12 Mar-2007. You can download the latest version from http://www.pctools.com/anti-virus/download/

Thanks

Any chance of a changelog?

I'm waiting to see if the major bugs have been fixed before I reinstall.

I also find it very unusual that a new version is released without any indication of what problems have been resolved or changes made and that if it were not for the status screen on PC Tools Antivirus nobody would even have known of this release. Is there a reason for doing it in this manner because to me it is not very good for customer relations.
I have used Registry Mechanic for a number of years with success and because of this purchased both PC Tools Antivirus and Spyware Doctor, but am now begiining to think I have made a mistake as your resolution of the problems with both of these products leaves a lot to be desired. Even if you provided animated icons in the task bar to show when they are doing something in the background would be an improvement that would at least show why a PC has suddenly slowed down, other than just an increase in disk activity.

Well, given the version number I'd say it's a pretty minor update, so understandable if they didn't announce it. That's quite normal for all PCT products - minor updates like that just happen via Smart Update automatically. Still, some idea of what has changed would be nice.

Default New version not "new version"??

Hi All

I also didn't interpret the release of revised version 3.1.0.14 via Smart Update last week as being the "new version" referred to by Anthony Chen in http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45641 .

There have been definite improvements with each revision but PCTAV is still not stable enough to be deployed for non-tech-savvy users. When an error occurs during file or email scanning (see attachment JAS_4.jpg), PCTAVSvc.exe has crashed, there is no protection, but the tray icon and program interface continue to function normally. If you shut down the interface and try to restart PCTAV you eventually get a more meaningful message (JAS_5.jpg), but this happens far too often for me to trust it with anyone but myself.

cheers
Pete

Hi Arden42,

My AV did not update automatically via Smart Update, I had to do a full download and install. According to Smart Update no update was needed even though I was running the previous version.

Ah, OK. I don't run PCTAV but I understood from the OP that it loaded automatically. I know they often do that for SD.

I am pleased ONLINE PROTECTION seems to be fully working now. I no longer have a slow internet connection when it is on.

On the slightly negative side, I myself also had a number of crashes in the previous release. These never seem to freeze my computer though but there was never any indication why it crashed in the first place. Also, PCTAV once spotted some type of infection during a scan but it seemed difficult to find out what it was or what I should do to resolved it. After rebooting and another scan the problem had gone away - so I left it 'hoping' PCTAV had sorted it out.

Overall I have been happy with PCTAV. I was expecting a detail of 'whats new' in the release (as I have with most other software). For me this builds confidence in the product and makes me feel as if I have some idea whats going on - 'where its at'. I had the impression this was a big release.

Peter.
