Hi compusolchi,

Regarding the problem that you are experiencing, could I ask you to try to follow the steps below, and reinstall PC Tools Antivirus in Safe Mode with Networking.

1) Download the latest build version from our web site:
http://www.pctools.com/anti-virus/download/

- Save to your disk or to download folder

2) Uninstall the currently installed PC Tools Antivirus.

To uninstall click START > Programs or All Programs > PC Tools Antivirus > Uninstall

3) Restart your PC [Must restart]

4) Navigate to C:\Program Files\ folder and locate & delete the "PC Tools Antivirus" folder [Very important !!! - must be deleted]

5) Delete any folder called [PC Tools Antivirus] if exist under :-

C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PC Tools\

Note: Application Data folder is hidden folder - You DO NOT delete Application Data folder ! Only remove [PC Tools Antivirus] folder !!!

* To view hidden folder
- Click 'Tools' from top menu
- Select Folder Options and then click View tab
- Tick the box 'Show hidden files & folders'
- Click Apply & OK

6) Restart your computer in Safe Mode with Networking, details are provided below.

Safe Mode with Networking
__________________________

How to Shutdown and Restart the Computer in Safe Mode:

1. Click on the Start button menu on your Task Bar
2. Select Shut Down from the menu (''Turn off Computer'' in XP). The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box will appear.
3. Select Shut down (or, ''Turn Off'' in XP) and click the Yes (or OK) button
4. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with various options
5. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode with networking' and not any other modes.
6. Login to your account (if asked)
7. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode
8. Connect to your internet connection
9. Install PC Tools Antivirus
10. Restart your computer

Please remember to reboot your computer after you completed these instructions.

Note: If you have any difficult getting the Windows Startup menu to appear at step 6, try the following to get into Safe Mode:

• Try holding down the left shift key instead of pressing the F8 key while booting up it. Begin immediately pressing the F5 key, about once a second, until the message 'Windows is bypassing your startup files' appears.

Kind Regards,

PC Tools Support

Default That works, but why I have to to that from time to time?

I have done the solution that you described and I now that works, but the problem is that It is not easy to do that in seven computers any other month. Is some one working on fix this permanently?

Hi compusolchi,

Regarding your concern, this problem occured because there was a file corrupted when you install PC Tools AntiVirus, installing in safe mode will make sure that no other processes are running during the installation process and you should not have to do this anymore in the future.

Kind Regards,

PC Tools Support
