Ok, where is the Quarantined folder?

I've just been trying out the PC tools free Antivirus program today and it found a false positive (sequence: novirus:Packed/Upack on a installer .exe).

It placed this file in to Quarantine but it doesn't tell me where this is!

Ok I can restore it from 'quarantine'. But why is there no way for me as a IT professional to see or set this important location?

I really should not have to set up one of my IT tools to go hunting for it....

Also do PC Tools plan to make a USB stick version of this tool?

I'm trialling the AV software I downloaded today and I got a prompt of a possible virus.

Its running on a Win 2000 sp4 PC.


Well the prompt was totally useless it seems to me.



How are we suppose to take any intelligent action based on this can I ask?


I'd expect to see a full path and file name with the name of the virus detected.

The quarantine location is

c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\pc tools\pc tools antivirus\quarantine.

A search for the folder "quarantine" should also bring it up quickly. No special IT tools required~


As for the prompt dialog, I haven't seen that error before. I've attached a pic of what the prompt should look like. I will escalate the issue of the path not being displayed and we'll look at getting this featyre included in a subsequent version.

I would be interested in getting a copy of the false positive file if you're willing to send it to my email. Please zip it with a password to heinzlee(at)gmail(dot)com. Please include the password in the email. I will escalate that so 1. we don't get a false positive anymore and 2. the prompt shows correctly for all situations.

Well that is certainly a better prompt. But why not include the full path to the file in question?

Sorry but very often the file name itself is of little use without the pathname as well.

Also it would be a good idea to make the filename clickable or have a directory icon so that the user can open the directory containing the file quickly and examine the directory contents.

I've been in IT for thirty years and many products fail at this type of hurdle.
Now that would make it polished product. You'd want that wouldn't you? ;-)

BTW, you didn't answer my query about a USB PortableApp version.
Very popular atm with my clients.
USB sticks keep getting cheaper and bigger...

Thanks for your reply and questions. Sorry I missed answering your earlier query. I will add your suggestions for the prompt to the feature request job. However it's not up to me to make feature decisions for new versions but having a customer request on the forums does help.

AV products by their nature are hard to run from a USB stick. I guess a cut down version that only performed scans is feasible but running from a USB places lots of restrictions on the program. I will also put in a feature request for this as well. We already have something similar to this for Spyware Doctor - the AOSS scanner, available here. That page also covers some details in relation to the problems with running scans with programs that are not installed in the host system.

I don't think I did get your email about that. I may have deleted it by accident because I wouldn't have recognized it right away. I didn't realize that Gmail didn't allow password protected zip files. I'm sorry I asked you to send the sample to an impossible address.

The only other email address is heinz_lee(at)hotmail(dot)com. I have exclusive filtering on that address so your email will go to my spam folder initially. Please let me know when you send the sample so I can fish it out of my spam folder.

Ah I see you didn't test your address.

Google has a lot of protection on its email accounts to prevent spam and viruses. Ask any IT engineer.

Can I ask why a limited registered company like PCTools is using domestic email accounts for it trade? What's wrong with virusreports@pctools.com for example?
