Default force new activation, changes in OOBETimer are restored (WXP-Home)

Hi,

I want to re-activate a WinXP-home Installation. All changes to OOBETimer in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\WPAEvents
e.g. to 01 01 01 01 ... are restored after reboot. How can I force to change? - I want to activate with another key (a purchased key that is my own).

thx

Are you having a problem? If you need to activate windows, the activation program will come up when you start up. Then you put in your number.

WinXP is already activated! But not with my Code but with the code of another person who want "back" his key and I have to insert my key. I purchased the whole PC. It's both WinXP home.

BTW: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/190/
doesn't work.

The link/URL <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/190/>http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/190/</a>
does work.

Or did you mean the tweak on that page doesn't work?

It may be good that the tweak doesn't work as it would lock out editing of the Registry.

right, the http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/190/ itself works, its indeed possible to insert that doubleword, but it seems to have no effect on XP registry management. XP goes on restoring OOBETimer after manipulation e.g. to 01 01 01 01 ...
I hoped that the trick with DisableRegistryTools would turn off XP management of the registry.

Any ideas here how to force XP to accept changes in OOBETimer value?

Any ideas perhaps how to force a new activation, perhaps deleting some files somewhere in c:\windows ?

These articles found by Google seem to address the changing of the CD Key:

thx, I've already read lots of those thread, they all including the vbs-solution of Microsoft base on the ability to change the key in the registry. There are tools like http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html#xppid that change a key, but not with this installation here. Somewhat fuxxing quirk prevents changing the key!
After applying those tools, or after editing registry like explained some dozends of times in internet threads, THIS WinXP-Installations tells "already activated".

So once again: somebody here who can tell me how to switch off Microsoft tools that restore registry entrys like
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\WPAEvents?

Or some other idea to force new activation?

thx

Have you tried locating and deleting the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files in C:\Windows\System32?

You could try taking out the harddrive and sticking it in another computer. When you boot, it should force you to activate.
