Hi,
I have the following observation that I cant explain, can someone help? Open the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs you will see a list of the typed urls. have an IE window open. Delete one URL, say the last one, from the registry. This does not get removed immediately in the IE address drop down list. Open another instance of IE, and you will not see the removed URL in the addresss drop down. Now, I have seen some tools which can delete the entries from the drop down list of IE instances already open. What is it different that they do. The strange that I observed on my work win2k is that the url that we deleted from the registry, and which remains in the IE's list, gets re-added when I close this IE instance. Can someone give a safe way of removing the typed URLs? Thanks. -fl. |

Using the button to delete the History in IE Tools, Internet Options has always done it for me, gets rid of all the entries in the Address drop-down list.

Refresh the screen because before you do it is already there. |

I use a 13kb standalone program to remove individual addresses from the address bar. When I do I do not have to refresh the screen or anything else. The address is gone.
Give it a try. No install involved. If it don't work for you or you don't like it just trash the folder and it's one .exe. You can get it from <a target="_blank" href=http://www.geocities.com/johnno_ann/shot_2.html>here it is called "Delete URLS"</a> It does say it requires Win9x, ME or NT but it should work on 2K also. One other thing you might try is after deleting the key from the registry; go to Start, Logoff, Cancel to see if it works. Otherwise I do not know why yours is retaining the address. Are you the administrator? |

That program you used to delete your typed URLs is around 10 lines of code & written in VB 5
I am a programmer & have written a program that deletes all junk, which runs on the .NET Framework 1.1. You can download it from: http://www.gotdotnet.com/community/usersamples/ Just search for 'Empty Junk' Will be available on that site from 14/09/2004 & is released as shareware, which means after 30 days you have to purchase it if you like it. Program deletes the following: Cookies Find files... Typed URL's (this posts topic) Index.dat Files Recent Files Recycle Bin Run MRU list Temporary Files Temporary Internet Files (cache) Plus it includes a registry run keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run The run key part only works if you're a Administrator & was written because the amount of viruses out that are installed under those keys. Therefore, makes it easier to delete them from those keys. |
