Default IE corruption-what to do (WXP-Pro)

IE won't load pages properly (with error), logging on,
or configuring my ISP connection is not working as well as it should,
OE have problems as well,
but windows explorer is doing well no probs at all.
The modem Is reporting errors and closes, all the while the connection is still on,
(you know the little icon on the sys tray). It seems that the IE cache (temp files) is corrupted, is set to 720mb,
and after a short browsing it start displaying: This page cannot be found thing when I click on a link.
I have to reboot and log on again to have it working for a while, and on and on.
So I decided to reinstall\repair IE and OE but I'm not sure of how it's done,
short of reformatting and installing the whole OS.
And this is my best ghosted image that I have, so reformat and install or repair,
the flip side is time! 9 gegs of stuff. I need competent advice, thx...
