Default Windows logo testing? (WXP-Home)

I recently made the profound error of trying to uninstall IE from a new HP desktop running WinXP (I'd screwed up when setting a password for security settings & somehow set it so it wouldn't allow me to access any sites at all - and had no idea what the password was). Anyhow, whenever I try to reinstall IE6, I get an error message that reads "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. The software will not be installed." Argh! I downloaded the IE6 .exe file from the Windows download site and specifically made certain it was the WinXP version. Now they're telling me their own software hasn't passed Logo testing? What gives? And, more importantly, how do I circumvent this beast of a problem?
