Default Can'c Connect to Secure Sites (WXP-Home)

I've never seen this one. I am unable to connect to any secure sites with IE. All I get is Page Cannot Be Displayed error. I can connect with Netscape browser. Checked all security settings in Internet Options. Removed all adware/spyware. No firewall. Any ideas anyone?

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open a file called Hosts (no extension) with notepad.
Are there any entries in it other than localhost ?

LOL or just check this thread <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=brdIE&Number=96736&page=0& view=collapsed&sb=5&part=1#Post96757>http://www.winguides.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=brdIE&Number=96736&page=0& view=collapsed&sb=5&part=1#Post96757</a><P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by rjmac on 07/28/03 18:04.</FONT></P>

JRule,
Does this article help?
(Click) Cipher Strength Appears as 0-Bit in Internet Explorer</font color=red>

From that link:
<font color=blue>"In Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may experience the following behaviors:

When you click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu, the Cipher Strength value is 0-bit.
-and-
You cannot connect to and view Web pages on secure Web sites."</font color=blue>

Good luck,

Hosts file only contains localhost. Cipher Strength is 128. Oddly sfc /scannow will not run. Anyother ideas?

Do you use firewall? With it is possible to restrict outgoing access to tcp/ip port 443, which is used for https protocol.

No firewall. No TCP/IP Filtering. And I can connect to secure sites with Netscape.

Check your internet options/advanced (in the control panel) to see if you have SSL protocol enabled. You may also need to enable TLS protocol if you're looking at a FIPS compliant site.

More likely though, it's probably one of many known issues between SSL and XP. There are loads of KB articles in MS on the subject. Here's one:

Did this just start? If so, do you go through a Linksys router and did you recently flash the firmware on the router to the latest release? If so, this may be the cause.
