Default IE 6.0 does not support Java? (WXP-Pro)

When entering certain websites I get this message "Use a navigator that supports Java". I use IE 6.0 which came with Win Xp. I've tried to enable Java support by clicking the option in Tools/Internet options/Advanced but the option just isn't there.
Should I reinstall Microsoft's VM? How can I do that? Thanks
