Default Version 9 not working, Version 8 did

I have recently updated to RM V9 and it starts a scan gets half way through and then shuts down.

Version 8 prior to the install of version 9 worked fine.

I have run a virus sweep and superantispyware they have shown nothing.

I have uninstalled version 9 and reinstalled it, I have done a total uninstall version 9 and re-installed it. The same thing happens gets about halfway through the sweep and then RM shuts down.

I have contacted RM Tech support nothing much happening on that front they aksed me to send a Scan log file, but as it shuts down before creating a scan log I cannot do this. I have asked them to email RM version 8 so I can reinstall. Version 9 exe file overwrote version 8.

Anyone got any ideas?

Default Mine either...

My version 9 never gets going. The first thing I see it the "loading?" screen (I don't know what else to call it) and then the Vista error box...
"Registry Mechanic 9.0 has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I must be the only person in the world with that problem. Google AND Yahoo AND Bing searches don't come up with anything. (We all know that if Google, Yahoo and Bing can't find it, it does not exist! )

(And my version 8 worked)

Default Version 9 RM still the same.

Downloaded XML SP3 and parser. RM version 9 the same will not run completely. Starts and goes to about half way then shuts down.

I have also tried to run RM version 9 with Zone Alarm and Superantispyware shut down, RM still the same shuts down.

I still don't understand why RM version 8 worked fine and version 9 does not. Anyone got any suggestions?

Still nothing from PC Tools tech support!!!!!!

Could you do a custom scan, checking each section to find out which one is causing the problem.

You can do this by:
Going to settings > custom scan-> uncheck all-> check 1-> scan-> repair.
Repeat the above steps and let us know what is causing the problem We can then assist you further.

OK I have done a custom scan and it is the temp files/ short cuts part of the scan which shuts down RM

Could you please follow the steps below:

1. Restart your computer and make sure nothing is running. (You may also try to boot into safe mode or safe mode with networking)
2. Click Run > type in TEMP > a new window will open > please delete all of the items inside the folder, once done continue with next step
3. Click Run > type in %TEMP% > a new window will open again > please delete all of the items inside the folder
4. Restart your computer > run RM and see if the problem persists

There may be a file in the TEMP folder which is causing this problem.

Default Sorted!!!!!

AChen, There would not be any Temp files to speak of on my computer as I use CCleaner on a regular basis.

What I did was to work out, by trial and error which folder had the offending file or files in. So I traced it by scanning the folders one at a time and finding which one made RM shut down. Then going deeper in that folder tree until I discovered which actual folder had the files in it, that were shutting down RM.

It was a folder my daughter had created which contained some pictures, jpeg format, I noticed that the folder name was very long (22 letters and spaces) and contained an !. I removed the exclaimation mark from the folder title and shortened the title, ran RM and it did not shut down. I then ran RM for the whole C: drive and for all sections. All worked well finding 349 errors (mainly in the temp/ short cuts) which RM fixed.

All working now after a great deal of hassle. Strange this worked with version 8 but not version 9

Default scans no longer work after upgrade

I had a similar issue with my version 8 upgrade. NOTE I am using XP Pro 64bit.
Check your property settings on your RegMech Icon "Compatability Mode "

It may have inadvertantly been changed. I believe you have to make sure the Run in Compatability mode check box is not populated.

Default REgistry Mech does not work XP

Similar problem to above. 8 worked 9 install did not. See splash screen, App. ends with fault. message in Event viewer. Uninstalled 9 completely and re-installed 8.0 and it faults now too. Also running either one worked in Safe mode. Also using Spyware Doctor. No other services/Apps are restricting Registry Mech.. No compatabilty is set. {XP Service pack 2 and all current security releases}
