    Unhappy Registry Mechanic 11.0.1.716 issues...

    Hi,

The registry compacting doesn't work as before under XP Pro SP3.

After compacting, the software displays "compacted at 100%", it doesn't ask me to reboot but the mention "compact required" is still there.

    Is it a bug?

By the way, why the RMAutoUpdate planned task is automatically created?
Where is the parameter to don't create it?

    Hi,

I'd like to add to this subject another curious thing.

RM stores a lot of temporary files under "Documents and Settings/machine_name/Application Data/Registry Mechanic" !

Specially the log directory has too much files, which is the last straw for a cleaner software...

    Hello HiSpeed,

I've just tried a compact on my test machine with the latest version and everything seemed ok. What I might get you to do is a few things.

    1. Run a complete 'Clean your Registry'
    2. Run a windows system repair disk. Instructions below
    3. Then run 'Compact Registry'

You will need to try and run in this order.

How to run Chkdsk from My Computer or from Windows Explorer

    1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
    2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
    3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
    4. Make sure that both 'Automatically fix file system errors' and 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' is ticked and then click 'Start'
    5. Click 'Yes' If you want windows to restart now and perform the scan or otherwise click 'no' and the scan will complete after reboot.

    Hello again HISpeed,

Can you please confirm whether you are using 32 or 64 bit XP.

For RM storing files under "Documents and Settings/machine_name/Application Data/Registry Mechanic" can you please provide a screen shot.

    Hello Magician,

I have several PC running XP Pro SP3 32bits and the situation is exactly the same on all of them.

    Point 1 (compacting):
    There is no disk error...
Edit: The problem occurs when the registry is already compacted.
I think it's a bug to ask to compact again in this case.
Further more, the analysis seems wrong because based on time not on the real registry organization...

    Point 2 (autoupdate):
I disabled the RMAutoUpdate task because automatically recreated...
Edit: I found a work around in setting to 0 the registry parameter:
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PCTools\Registry Mechanic\Settings\General\AutoUpdate"...

    Point 3 (log):
Under the directory I mentioned, I deleted several hundred of files and it is empty now...
Edit: What I called "machine_name" is the "user_login_name".
Probably I have to set to 0 the registry parameter:
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PCTools\Registry Mechanic\Settings\RegScan\CreateLog"
    could you confirm?

    Point 4 (date format):
There is several date formats ("JJ/MM/AAAA" and "MM/JJ/AAAA") registered under:
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PCTools\Registry Mechanic\"

I found an other bug when reinstalling the product !

    Point 5 (installation directory):
The installation procedure doesn't respect what the user wants.
My old version was under a directory named "D:\regmecha\".
If I give the same, the current version creates "D:\regmecha\PC Tools Registry Mechanic\" instead...

    Hi,

    Found an other:

    Point 6 (IE temporary files):
I have a lot of temporary files not deleted by RM under the directory:
    C://Documents and Settings/user_login_name/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/
For example, I have the folders:
    M4G472N8
    OAUXI5KT
    QO1UWHVT
    TDCOCX31
    31XI6PBG
    43E4P92W
    etc.
These folders are hidden to Windows Explorer, but visible from PowerDesk Explorer.
Even when using Firefox, these folders are created or recreated...

    Hey Hi speed,

I've just got back to our team and the compacting issue is a bug. We're looking into fixing the issue soon but in the meantime below is the workaround.

    Workaround:
Reboot machine and then run a Compact.
Now Compact shows numbers and ask for a reboot.
    Check system health after reboot.
Status changed to GOOD with no actions listed below

In regards to the temp files not deleted by RM in the registry, I am still awaiting on a reply regarding the issue.

    Cheers,

    Magician
