    Default Bsod

his seems to be a problem as there have been many reports of BSOD since the latest release of Spyware Doctor. I have one computer on the old release and it has no problems. I get the BSOD about 5 times a month. I have tried all the fixes that were suggested but it still appears in Pctcore.sys. It appears to happen when Spyware Doctor is going to do an update. The problem is bad enough that when I do a firmware update for a piece of hardware I turn SPYware doctor off. If I cant come up with a fix I will have to find new antivirus software. PCT does no answer my emails. An BSOD does not show up on their database even though you can find references to it all over the internet. Are they hopping if they ignore it it wil go away.

    Hi bobbymonte,

Welcome to the PC Tools community.

The new version should be available shortly.
PC Tools Team can analyze the BSOD log file which gets created everytime the computer crashes and find out the cause for this issue.
Please attach the Log file in your next post. Crash Log file: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini*.dmp

    Hi Chromas

Upgraded to Version 9.0.0.1218 from 9.0.0.888 yesterday... was only getting an occasional BSOD, now have had 3 since upgrading.. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit... BluescreenView shows Pctcore.sys as the culprit..

Looks like this version still hasn't fixed the problem..

Anyway to download an older version???

    Thanks

I just updated to the latest PCTools with antivirus and computer preformance and BSOD are even worse. I decided to shutdown PCTools while not browsing the internet. So far no BSOD in PCTCORE. However my computer is now back to its normal self. Without PCTOOLS running programs load much much vaster and the computer responds to my mouse click instantly no waiting and wonder if I did the double click correctly. This is the problem with antivirus programs, they keep growing and soon take over the computer. AVG Free worked well, but I went to PCTOOLS because I had to wait 15 min to use the computer after booting for AVG to settle down. As new updates were put on, now I have to wait 10 min for PCTOOLS to settle down and now have to worry about BSOD in PCTcore.sys. It does a good job of protecting my computer, but it has now become more trouble that it is worth. I stopped my auto renewal and have a year on it so I will just wait and see how it does in the future.

    Hi bobbymonte,

What kind of the error code appears on the Screen of Death?

If you have BSOD too after the clean re-install of PCTSDwAV then you can use Nirsoft's free BlueScreenView to interpret the Bug Check (BC) codes in your BSOD minidump files and then post the results as follows:

    1. Download BlueScreenView here.
    2. Unzip the downloaded file (no installation required) and double-click BlueScreenView.exe to run.
    3. When scan is completed, go to Edit | Select All.
    4. Go to File | Save Selected Items and save the report as a text file named BSOD.txt.
    5. Attach BSOD.txt to your next post.

    Hi bobbymonte,

In addition to following chomas’ suggestions in the above post and in order to troubleshoot the cause of the BSODs (Blue Screens of Death), I would suggest the following:

I first recommend creating a System Restore point before proceeding any further, backing up any other data that you cannot afford to lose would also be a good idea (these backups are precautions in case something goes wrong):

Please see this link on how to create a System Restore point using Windows XP (follow steps 1 to 5):

Removing any remaining components of previous installations of other anti-malware software can resolve any conflicts with PC Tools.

If you have ever had any other security software installed (even trial versions), please run the appropriate removal tool available from the manufacturers site, some advice on this can be found in the following thread:

If you are still encountering BSODs, try removing any remaining driver components of previously installed anti-malware/security software can resolve this (which can be left behind even after using the above removal tools), use the following threads to assist you in removing these leftover components:

One more thing you can do to ensure that your computer is in good working order is to run a System File Checker scan to detect and repair any components of Windows that have been corrupted/damaged over time (simply through general use, not your fault).
Please find instructions below for using this tool:

    Windows XP

Please note the following steps for Windows XP will require you to insert your Windows XP installation CD (in order for the System File Checker to restore uncorrupted files to your computer).

    1. Press the Start button and click Run
    2. Type cmd in the dialog box that appears and click OK (or press Enter)
    3. Type sfc /scannow
    4. Press Enter
    5. Please wait for the process to complete. Please restart your computer once this process has completed.

For further information, please refer to the original knowledge base article linked to below.

    Sources: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747/en-us

    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-24.html

    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
The following steps do not require you to insert the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation DVD to restore uncorrupted files to your computer.

    1. Press Start, type cmd in the search box of the Windows start menu.
    2. A black icon with the word cmd beside it will appear at the top of the Start menu.
    3. Right click this icon and choose "Run As Administrator". Click Yes or enter your administrator password to continue if UAC (User Account Control) is enabled.
    4. Type sfc /scannow
    5. Press Enter
    6. Please wait for the process to complete. Please restart your computer once this process has completed.

For further information, please refer to the original knowledge base article linked to below.

Since your computer is very slow even without PC Tools loading at start-up it may be no harm to try to optimize your computer a little to reduce boot up times.
Download and run Autoruns Use it to check the Logon and Services tab for 3rd party programs that you use (see the screenshot below). If you don’t use some programs at all or very little, consider un-checking their tick box on the far left of the Autoruns window. If you need to re-enable them later, run Autoruns and re-check the same box and restart your computer.

Please also defragment your hard disk with the Microsoft built-in defragmenter:

    Windows XP
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314848

    Windows Vista
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...your-hard-disk

    Windows 7
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...your-hard-disk

or use the currently free version of Raxco PerfectDisk to defragment:

    http://blog.raxco.com/2012/03/29/per...e-defrag-beta/

I hope the above information is of assistance in attempting to resolve the BSODs that you are encountering.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thank you.

    Default Just fustrated

Wow looking at all the things requested to do to try to get rid of BSOD makes me think it would be easier to reinstall windows. It seems that PCTOOLs has received a number of dumps , but we have not seen any fixes from these dumps. I installed the latest update a few days ago and things got worst. BSOD just sitting there running no applications. Got through a virus check with no virus found. Newest problem was windows hanging and not responding. Could not even move courser. For the last few days I have stopped PCtools and BSOD and hangs are gone. Also with pctools stopped my system is running and responding very very much faster. Programs load a lot faster. Get a splash screen just after double clicking instead of many seconds with nothing, wondering if I doubled click correctly. When I boot the system it took PCtools about 10 minutes to settle down before I could use the system with out waiting long periods for something to happen. With PCTOOLs stopped my machine boots and is ready to go in about 2 minutes. Now I only start PCT when I am surfing the web, checking emails, and to do virus scans. I understand that a virus checker has to do a lot of work and it will slow things down some. One can put up with a little, but not a lot. I have an old laptop. it seems it would be better to put nothing on it but windows, with no applications and use it to get emails and surf the web. If it gets a virus, reformat the drive an reinstall windows. Sure cheaper and easier than what one has to put up with with most anti virus software. Sorry for such a negative report, This is not just a PCTOOLs problem. I dropped AVG because it was killing computer response time. Every company keeps building a program that will try to do everything and with each build the program gets slower and bigger. Look at Windows? I would like to keep PCT with AV as it does a good job catching bad stuff. Maybe in release 10.
