System Resource Monitor Utility

Can I get some recommendations of good System Resource Monitor Utilities? I hate it when my hard drive is getting hammered doing something but I can't figure out what.
Same with my processor. Sometimes it's getting chewed up and I can't find out much info as to why. Usually all the info I can find out is vague and unhelpful.
