I just wanted to comment about PcTools free Anti-Virus software.
IT'S GREAT IMO!!!! I had problems with early versions of it which was included in Pctools early Internet security for Vista, so I didn't use it. Since that time I tried it again just for virus protection and all the bugs seem to be worked out.
I've tried just about every free and trial virus protection software there is and I've come to the conclusion that this is the best, and here's why :
I always as a Xtra precautionary measure when downloading freeware, send it to Virus Total website to be scanned.
There was a file I downloaded and Pctools Anti-virus recognized it right away as containing a Trojan virus. Out of curiosity I kept the file in .zip form to try other free scanners on it. Some of the better known free ones I tried scanning the file with were Avast, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials and NONE OF THEM detected the virus.
Your probably thinking while reading that "It was probably a false positive", but no it wasn't, upon doing the Virus Total scan several virus scanners identified the trojan by name. When finishing my test I went back and let PcTools Anti-Virus dispose of the file with the virus.
BTW : I do not recommend doing any such test as I did, I was extremely careful in doing this test, leave that kind of stuff up to the experts at Pctools. I do have a fairly good knowledge about computers so I knew for the most part the dangers of running the test and how to avoid problems.
Although I don't claim to be an expert in the field.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience as of late with PcTools Anti-Virus software in the hopes that it will save others time when looking around the net for Virus protection. One missed virus is the one that will get you every time, and Pctools Anti-Virus DID NOT MISS.
