Earlier tonight I uninstalled the Realtek Ethernet driver in order to reinstall it. Upon reboot windows showed "PC Tools Driver #6" was being installed, but failed. I got my Ethernet driver reinstalled but there is a non functioning "PC Tools Driver #6" stuck in the adapters tab of device manager which was not there before. I have tried uninstalling it but it does not go away. Does anyone else have this problem and/or may know how to get rid of it?
error reporting shows that the driver involved is "pctNdis64.sys"

make a backup! this is not for the faint of heart!
log in as an administrator or equivalent
uninstall pctfw+
uninstall realtek driver
reboot
log in as an administrator or equivalent
click 'start' , 'run', type cmd
in the dos box enter:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
cd %SystemRoot%\System32
start devmgmt.msc
devicemanager has now been started with the option to see all items.
click 'view' , 'show hidden devices'
expand views where necessary
right click on all pctfw remainders and choose uninstall
reboot
log in as an administrator or equivalent
install realtek driver
install pctfw+
reboot

After uninstalling pctfw and realtek driver computer rebooted and said it was not a genuine copy. Its odd because I did this same uninstallation last week and everything was fine. Now im running on a system restore and im just going to reinstall windows.

This is the closest post to my experience, Windows continuously tries to install PC Tools Driver #4, which continuously fails. Can anybody help with this. Is there even such a thing as PC Tools Driver #4?

Hi Badger6052,
Yes.Is there even such a thing as PC Tools Driver
Can you please uninstall the program, and please make sure, that You haven't installed any drivers from PC Tools
In order to show hidden devices:
1. Right click My Computer and Select Properties
2. Click Advanced tab
3. Click Environment Variables
4. Below the bottom Environment Variables window pane (System Variables), click New
5. For Variable Name, enter devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
6. For Variable Value enter 1
7. Click OK. OK to close My Computer
Open Device Manager, click on View, select show hidden devices from the menu.
Most of the orphans will be in non-plug and play drivers and the icons will appear grayed out. You can right click the grayed out driver and click uninstall.
Now. Please try again install PCTFP.
Best Regards
