I just installed Spyware Doctor 22.214.171.1244
It told me to disable Windows Defender to avoid conflicts. Am I asking for trouble to wait to see if a conflict happens?
I see the advice to disable Defender in this forum...but I'm considering waiting to see if there are really problems. I've always heard and found that it's best and fine to (unlike with antivirus and firewall) run multiple antispyware aps. Even though I've had one tell me to disable a different one, I never had problems.
I'm running Spybot and Defender (and about to stop using Ad-Aware).

must I disable Windows Defender?

I would recommend disabling (better yet removing) Windows Defender since Windows Defender has active protection (for what ever it is worth) and it is not recommended to have more than one active protection of a type (anti-spy/mal ware and anti virus).
If you want a free back up stand alone scanner get Malwarebytes Antimalware from malwarebytes.org. One of the best. Adaware and Spybot are a bit long in the tooth and not as effective as MBAM.
