I think this is some sort of bug.

Running same version of PC Tools Firewall, got same problem with laptop as with desktop computers running Paint.NET - I need to disable firewall in order to use that program (seems like PC Tools Firewall causes troubles with applications which require .NET framework?) and, which is worse, I once had problem even with my Graphic Card Control Center just after booting my computer.

Please try the new PC Tools Firewall v5.0.0.25 beta. It supposed to solve the previous ESV hang issues.

Default Adobe CS3 freezes XP using Firewall Plus

I have to disable Firewall Plus v5.0.0.36 when using any of the Adobe CS3 programs (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premier etc) otherwise the system freezes as the applications load. I have to reboot to continue and turn off Firewall plus before trying again. This method works but I would rather have the firewall running and still be able to use Adobe stuff.

I have tried everything I can think of including; a complete fresh installation of XP and all the updates, all the latest drivers for my hardware including the Nvidea drivers and utility. I even upgraded the ram with 2gb just to help improve system performance. I originally suspected the Nvidea 7300 video card as there are a few similar "freezing" comments on Adobe forums so used the latest xp signed drivers with the fresh install. CS3 runs fine with the Nvidea card even with full acceleration but locks up the instant Firewall plus is applied.

    Any ideas?

    Hi
Can you try installing the firewall and disabling Enhanced Security Verification to see if the Adobe programs run?

    Smile freezing

    Hi,

I had the same problem when I tried to run Quicktime or my personal program built in VC++ 2008. I disabled the Enhanced Security Verification and all my programs run fine now. I have Adobe Photoshop CS2 and that runs fine too. Thank you!

    Default Problem solved!

Disabling Enhanced Security Verification cured the problem!
I can now use both the Adobe suite and enjoy the protection of Firewall plus at the same time, result! (and all it took was a couple of clicks to fix it).

Well at least my system has benefitted from a complete XP overhaul and upgrade, it's now running better than ever.

So a big thank you to mjq424 for the solution. Would you like to elaborate on why this conflict occurs?

PS. "..... It supposed to solve the previous ESV hang issues." I now know what ESV stands for!!!!

    Hi
I'm not entirely sure what ESV does, but it does increase your protection against specialised firewall leaking programs (and therefore some trojans and worms). Hopefully this problem will be resolved in future builds.

Today I got tired of disabling pctools firewall (v5.0.0.38) everytime I had to use programs like paint.net or playing a video with VLC!
(It really hung even with DosBox playing old games, I had to manually create a rule to give it comlete access 'cause the firewall hung my pc before an authorization request)

I uninstalled it (probably forever) and installed another freeware firewall rated as good as pctools firewall on matousec site.

I won't consider installing again pctools firewall anymore until these problems persist!

    Regards.
