You probably have your ActiveX controls in the Security section (Internet Zone) of Internet Options set to High. Reset to Medium and see if this solves the problem.

I am having this problem also, although there are a few things on top of it.

This in particular just started happening today. Yesterday MS Office went haywire and tried to reinstall itself each time I opened a component. So I went to the MS site to get a repair download for office, to accept the download I had to change the security settings on exploror but I wasn't able to download the item I was going for.

For some reason, today the computer is bringing up this message when I try to go anywhere on the system, internet or otherwise. I then tried to access the security controls for exploror and the options under the security and the tab to the right are blank and not modifiable, additionally when I try to change them, the computer states a problem with the file "InetXXX.XXX" (not at that particular system at the moment, but the suffix starts with a "C") and shuts exploror down.

I reinstalled exploror today, but it didn't seem to do anything different.

Any help would be appreceiated, Thank you

    - James

    To stop that annoying

Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page

    window from popping up:

This works fine on my Windows 98SE box with MSIE v5.5 SP2.

    From: http://www.newbie.org/common/turnoff_activex.html

    "Advanced Users only" section:

In the C:\Windows\System folder is a file called shdoclc.dll

Copy that file into another directory since it cannot be modified while Windows is running.

    Using Resource Hacker from: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/

open that file which you copied into another directory and search

along the String table to delete the line to prevent those warnings.

You will end up at: String Table Folder 503.

Delete just line 8033 and re-compile.

If you don't understand that then you shouldn't be messing with the file.

Now reboot into DOS and overwrite that file you backed up over the one in

    the C:\Windows\System folder.

There are no more warnings even when ActiveX is disabled!

    Hello Guri12

"blank and not modifiable, additionally when I try to change them, the computer states a problem with the file "InetXXX.XXX" (not at that particular system at the moment, but the suffix starts with a "C") and shuts exploror down."

inetcplc.dll is a DLL library used by the Internet control panel, If you open your registry and find the key below, you´ll see all information about the tab "Security":
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\SO

however, if you see "SO" blank or if not to exist the folder in regedit...

To resolve this problem try to use the Internet Explorer Repair tool:

1.Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
2.On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, click [Add/Remove[/b], click Repair the current installation of Internet Explorer, and then click OK.

If the Internet Explorer Repair Tool Verification does not work, or if Internet Explorer 5 is not listed in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, you can start the Internet Explorer Repair tool from a command prompt:
1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.For Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 and earlier, in the Open box, type the following command (the command is case sensitive), and then click OK:

    rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

    OR

Try resolve this problem with SFC:

System File Checker checks for damaged or replaced system files, and then prompts you to replace any files that do not match the original Windows files.
To resolve this issue, extract the Inetcpl.cpl and Inetcplc.dll files from the Windows ME CD-ROM. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type sfc.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.Click Extract one file from Installation disk.
3.Type inetcpl.cpl in the Specify the system file you would like to restore box, and then click Start.
4.In the Restore From box, type the drive letter and path to the Windows ME Source CD-ROM folder.
5.In the Save File In box, type the full path to the \Windows\System folder (eg. C:\Windows\System), and the click OK.
6.Click OK to use the default backup folder when you are prompted.
    7.Click OK.
8.Repeat steps 3-7, using the Inetcplc.dll file in step 3

    cheers,

    Hello all

I have some query regarding the activex control. Every time when i use javascript in the html page and open that html page then it gives this message at the top

"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has ristricted the web page from running script or activex contorls that could access your computer. Click here for options..."

then i need to click on "allow Blocked contents.."

then a message box appears with yes/no option with message "Allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but activeX control might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run activeX content"

then i need to click on 'yes' button

and sometimes after this another messagebox appears with two buttons yes.no with message "An activeX control on this page might be unsafe to intreact with other parts of the page. Do you want to allow this intreaction?

then i need to click on 'yes' button

i tried to skip these annoying prompts by following the above steps you have mentioned but it did not work , i dont know how to "reboot into DOS and overwrite that file you backed up"

it does not allowing to replace that shdoclc.dll file in c:\windows\system32 folder by any way

i am using windows XP and have a user account (not using administrator)

Could you please resolve my query.
