Disable all the connection tab (or prevent changing it) as decribed in <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/797/>"Internet Explorer Control Panel Restrictions"</a> (part 1 + 2).

I have found the solution to disable the "automatically detect settings" found at the Connections tab -&gt; Lan Settings -&gt; Automatic Configuration of the IE property.

    Go to:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings]

The keys you're looking for are:
    1. "SavedLegacySettings"
    2. "DefaultConnectionSettings"

The values are a list of hex bytes, so best thing to do, is change the setting manually and export it with regedit.

Here is my export of the registry:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings]

hi am new here and i have similar problem in accessing the registry to uncheck the 'Automatically Detect Setting' check box. The solution described above by Jemboy2 is a bit complicated. Can someone explain it a bit further so that i may use it and solve the problem.

Default Set IE automatically detect settings via registry

Setting IE Automatically Detect Settings via registry or script is simple but essential for system administrator to parse a large number of computers at a while. The script works for IE 6.0, IE 7 & IE 8. Know More Details & Download the Script.
