I have a problem, if I run alll day my system resources goes down to 50%, so I deleted all the stuff that starts when the computer starts and took almost everything off teh taskbar by the clock. I have run diagnostics when my computer gets that low but all they tell me is to shut down some open programs, which aren't any. I am running virus scan but don't think that is doing it, or is it?

try turning off virusscan and see if your resources go up. It might be probably that your running high resource programs that take up alot of mem. You should adjust your virtual memory settings to make sure your computer doesn't go kaput on you. Just right click on my computer and goto properties, performance and virtual memory. Select your own virtual memory settings and for the min and max boxes, put twice as much of ram you have into both settings. Example, I have 64mb of ram...I selected 128 for max and min. Also, goto your system info [start, programs, accessories, system tools] and expand the tree on the left and gotosoftware environment. Goto the runing tasks one and check out what you have running and find the problem. I run my computer all day long because I run a ftp server, work on alot of imaging programs that suck up mem but fail to fall below 60%. Doubt you should either considering my computer eats up mem like crazy compared to my other computers and all of my friends computer.

I have tried all of that, I have a program that is called wintop, it finds all of the stuff running on my computer and calculates what the CPU idle time is, it never drops down below 98%. I will try it again, but don't think it will work, I also have 64Mb ram and virusscan for almost a year and never have had this problem then all of a sudden it doesn't want to cooperate with me.
Thanks

You probably have an application that has a memory leak. So when you run the app, and close it, Windows can't reclaim all the memory the app needed while running. So if you run the app multiple times, each time you eat up some resources. Eventually you can get pretty low.
Since this is a free RAM issue, not a CPU-usage issue, Wintop probably won't give you much help in discovering which program is causing the problem.
The only way I know to cure the situation is to restart Windows. If you want to find out which application(s) are doing, I suppose you could experiment with opening/closing apps one at a time, so open one app and close it, X times, and see if you lose resources as you go along. Time consuming and not fun, but as I said I don't know any better way.
