View Full Version : Can't disable automatic logon
My operating system was 98SE then out of the blue it started to log on at startup automaticaly. I've recently upraded to ME but the problem is still there. The box in TweakUI for the auto logon is not checked either. Any ideas on what I can try?

You could go to Start/run, and type Msconfig.
Go to the startup tab, and see what's there.
It could well be one of the apps listed there that load when Windows starts.
If in doubt about what is what, please post here.
Good luck, Tony
Thanks for that but there doesn't seem to be anything there that shouldn't, I've looked before. Any other ideas what it could be coz its realy got me beat.
Thanks

First, go to Control Panel>Users and delete the ones you created.
Try #3 first, it may do the trick alone, if not go through the following steps.
1. Go to Start>Search>Search for Files & Folders... type in *.pwl and delete all .pwl files in c:\windows
2. Go to Start>Run, type notepad system.ini. Maximize the system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]
3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login
Reboot
You should now get the login box one last time. Just click OK for no password.
Not yet, try:
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\curr ent version\network\real mode net\
if you see an entry named AutoLogon, right-click on it, choose modify and type in the number 0.
Try
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon
Right-click on the Login key, choose new>BinaryValue, name it MustBeValidated and
give it a value of 01 00 00 00.

Thanks reghakr
I've not had chance to give that a go yet but I'll let you know the outcome.
Fingers crossed
