My OS is WinME. I am trying to restore my registry to prior to October 28 (when Daylight Savings Time started). When I try to restore prior to 12:00 AM October 28, the system indicates that it cannot complete the restore and doesn't change anything.

I don't see how daylight savings time change would have anything to do with being able to restore or not with system restoration, but that's what I encounter.

Is there a method by which I could compare the registry settings from a prior restoration checkpoint to my current settings, as I am trying to figure out what got hosed in my registry that is no longer allowing me to do a video capture.

Thanks!

There is a bug in System Restore that may cause your system restore to fail after September the 8th 2001, if the following patch is not applied.

Download 290700usam.exe (249KB)

For more information, please consult:
Q290700 - Checkpoints That You Create After September 8, 2001 Do Not Restore Your Computer

WARNING: The MS Checkpoints fix does not appear to work with Windows Me build 4.90.2525.8. It only works with the final release of Me (build number 4.90.3000).

maybe this..

Smitty:
I took a look at Q290700 and it definitely sounded like something that I needed. I installed it and it seems to have set today (the day I installed the patch) as the last place I can restore from.

Although it didn't help my specific problem, it sounds like had I not installed the patch I would run into the problem again in the future. So while I still have my initial problem I DO appreciate the heads up so that in the future I won't run this.

Thanks.

If I understand it the patch removed all previous System Restore Points except the one it created when you installed it...?
..."Although it didn't help my specific problem..."

Have you tried restoring to today's SET point? If you haven't, how do you know it hasn't helped your problem? Please POST back with some feedback if you have tried this and it has failed..

Thanks
