On startup, error message says: HKCMD.EXE has caused an error in HKCMD.EXE. Computer continues to boot, and operate, apparently normally. Should I continue on fat, dumb and happy? This is a stand alone PC. This error resulted from fixing an earlier error about igfxtray.exe and hkcmd.exe was both linked to missing hccutils.dll. I copied the dll to windows/system. All this occured after downloading new ibm video driver. {sigh}

These have to do with your Intel i810 Chipset.
hkcmd.exe Related to Intel i8** series graphics chipsets.
igfxtray.exe Quick access to the control panel via a System Tray icon for graphics based upon the Intel chipsests (ie, i810). These chipsets are often included on motherboards. Not required - accessible vis Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
What kind of a computer do you have?
You may have installed the wrong drivers.

It's a Sony RX260DS. P3 800. OE installed Windows ME. Sony took it upon themselves to leave a lot of software off. Wish I'd have bought a Dell! I'm going to continue to pursue this because I think it is causing other probs.

mosaic1: You were right! I d/l new graphics driver from Intel. Apparently my firewall or virus protection fouled up earlier install. This on worked!!
coolsight: Your idea was good, but ME doesn't use sfc.exe. It uses a realtime thing call sfp. Go Figure. I'm an old dos dinosaur who is being kicked dragging and screaming into the world of windows.
Thank You both for your help!!
