hi,,does any one know how my cd-rom works sometimes and other times it says no cd-rom in drive when there is,,i was installing XP and was going fine but recently my drive doesnt read any data,,i have to reboot machine reinsert disk,,reads it for a short time,,then doesnt??? any idea's

no expert, but when i installed office xp onto my lap top, i had the same issue. for me, it was because my cd-rom drive is messed up, and when it got warm it would stop working. i had to take it slow, let it sit for a while, and then try to get through it, and after a few tries, it worked. other than that, possibly attempt to update the driver for the cd-rom drive before installing xp

make sure the CD is original. some CD drives are very sensitive and does not read properly if the CD is not burned properly.

Another possible reason is your CD ROM drive is to slow already and the CD is being burned at a higher speed.
