i remember using a program that allowed communication between networked computers, called win popup. i am wondering if anyone knows of how i can get this program, or if there is a programming i can do in Start>Run that will do the same thing, using dos.

You should be able to find WinPopup on your computer if its installed. If not, you can goto Add/Remove Programs, and find it among the many things here that you can check to install. Other than that, you can use the Netsend command from the Run line, or even at a command prompt. The format would be "netsend <computer name> <message>", obviously without the quotes or < > symbols. Good luck.

i am using windows me, and do not see the winpopup program there. also, it doesn't recognize netsend as a command in either run or msdos prompt. i typed exactly: (in run message box) netsend family HEY
and it didn't work. (family being the other computer's name) i am in a home network. would it not work for this situation, or am i doing something wrong?

Wow, I hope I didn't totally make myself look dumb with that answer, but I coulda swore that netsend would work, if nothing else. Try going to a command prompt first, then try the netsend command. On your end, you wont get any notification that the message was sent correctly, so be sure to check the other computer to see if the message is on the screen.

I apologize, on my end, dumb mistake. There's a space after net, before send....

net send family hey

would be the right one to go with, hehe. Sorry

do i need to be in c: ?
when i type it it shows:
c:/net send family hey
and that didn't work. i did find the winpopup program, but i would prefer to use the command prompt instead, if i can figure it out.
