Hi!
I have a question about the key ...\Explorer\ShellIcons\ in Windows 98.

How can one use it? Mine has one item in it, 29, with the value of an *.ico file. This shows the overlay icon of the shortcuts. So I thought that it is possible to define personal icons in this key and was really happy about the idea. But it doesn't work at all. I can't change anything. Can anyone give a list of numbers of icons and their meanings in this key (e.g. "29" = "overlay icon for shortcuts")? Or where can I find it? Is it necessary to change any other keys when you want to use your own ones?

Do I have to edit this key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or can I do it in HKEY_CURRENT_USER too?

Also, is it possible to change icons in the Start menu? I mean, for Programs, My Documents, Favourites, Settings, Help, Run, Log off and Shutdown?

Ok, shameless self promotion mode engaged... for the icons/explanation, check:

The icons you mention are in this key, but save yourself some trouble and just use IconPhile:

Not by us, just a friend, but while there's many tools online to change these icons and lots more, this is the only program doing this for free...
