Hi there,

it's a known issue that this feature's getting lost if you install the - older - SENDTO powertoy from Microsoft. I only got it back by reinstalling win98, but later found somewhere how to recreate it.
Here: http://www.angelfire.com/biz/serenitymacros/home.html
Lots of advanced tips and tricks there!

I checked out that webpage and did something but it didn't change it. Can you go there and direct me what to do?

Sure.

So, I suppose the powertoys messed it up ?
Remember, I haven't tried this, but "Serenity Macros" has proven to be worthwhile, I'd recommend it to everyone a little experienced with tweaking their system!

First, go to Control Panel --> Software --> select the Sendto powertoys in the list --> choose add/remove. Now ùncheck the three extensions on the bottom, the "Mail"-extensions (Win 98 has it's own Send to Mail). Confirm.

Second, select, copy and paste this text into a new .txt file:

REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink]
@="CLSID\\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}]
"NeverShowExt"=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\InProcServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SENDMAIL.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe,-103"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"

Save and rename the file to whatever.reg. Now doubleclick and confirm and your problem should be fixed...

Remember, it's this webmasters tweak (I don't even fully understand it, but he presented some useful tweaks), I suppose he (nor I) will take any responsibility for what might happen.
If it doesn't work, I've found reïnstalling win98 doesn't mess up that much, your configuration remains saved (only later versions of DirectX get lost, gotta reïnstall them too), and it doesn't take that much time...
Hope this is clear,

regards,

Ok it wasn't powertoys that messed it up. But I tried that code and it didn't work. If I reinstall windows I have to re-enter the user info and recustomize my desktop?

Hi,

no, reïnstalling will mostly take some time, just install it over your current configuration and maybe reïnstall a more recent version of DirectX. Wallpaper, colors, etc etc will remain the same. Maybe remove some icons that get replaced, you removed before. That's what helped here before. I know it's a little drastic, but it helps if there's no other answer available (lot simpler that searching the whole web...),

Workaround.

In Explorer, Right click, create shortcut, drag to desk top.

Needs a bit of cleaning up & renaming afterwards, but sure as hell beats reinstalling 98
