I’m using Windows ME with Intel Snapshot Version 3.0 application and its camera. Before it is working fine, but now I am getting an error message in the ‘Intel Snapshot’ window every time I run the Intel Snapshot application.

“Unable to connect to capture device (e.g. camera). If another application is using the capture device, close it.”

I restarted my PC to make sure that there is no other application using the camera but still I’m getting the error message. I also tried to re-install the Intel Snapshot application but still failing.

I cannot remember what application software I installed after the Intel Snapshot that caused this problem. How can I fix this problem or release the camera from other application?

Thanks for your help

If ever getting error messges that read something along the lines of, "...may be in use by another program" you wanna close all programs your using at the time. Then hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the close program window. In here are all the programs that your computer is currently running. One at a time, highlight them all, except for explorer and systray, and hit end task. Then when you have only explorer and systray left, try running the program again, and more than likely, that will clear things up. Good luck.

Hi 7ate9,

When I press the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys, ‘Close Program’ window pops-up with the following task:
Explorer
Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar
Ctfmon
Avconsol
Systray
Mdm
Vsstat
Vshwin32

I do ‘End Task’ to all of them except for Explorer and Systray as you recommend, but I am still getting the same error message:
“Unable to connect to capture device (e.g. camera). If another application is using the capture device, close it.” Thanks for any suggestion and recommendation you may still have…
