I want to change the name of the Recycle Bin to Trash
I have been able to do so in previous versions of windows by going into the registry and finding Recycle Bin
With Win95 it was the 1st one found. In Win98 it was the 2nd found. Same with Millenium but with XP it was the 4th one found
It changes but after a restart or log out it reverts back to Recycle Bin
Question: How to make change permanent

Check for the NoSaveSettings entry in the registry.
Look under the following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
or for all users:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
or locate your profile under the HKEY_USERS\S-1*** keys and change it here.

Cannot see anything in those keys but since I reinstalled XP for a 3rd time since Saturday and fixed my Search program, then maybe just maybe it fixed the Recyle Bin name problem
I just reistalled 20 minutes ago so nothing to report yet : )

If it doesn't, this works, you;ll need to shutdown and restart:
The Renamable Bin
backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ ShellFolder
You should find an Attributes value with a binary value of 40 01 00 20. Right-click the Attributes icon and type in 50 01 00 20.

That didn't work. I have seen this work on Windows 9x and NT, but it does not seem to work on XP.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ ShellFolder
You should find an Attributes value with a binary value of 40 01 00 20. Right-click the Attributes icon and type in 72 00 00 00. And delete the "CallForAttribute". Now right click on the desktop
and choose refresh and right click on the Recyclebin and you will see the rename option.
Try to change it to 40 01 00 20 when you are done
rename.

I tested it on my XP.
Did you shutdown and restart?

Yeah, I restarted and logged back in, and it didn't show me a rename option on my Recycle Bin. What version of XP do you have?

Well, I swear it worked when I first restarted, checking it now, there is no rename.
So I guess lawnguyen has the correct answer.I tried it, clicked view>refresh and the Rename entry now appears.
