I seem to be able to have only the color white for my text for the files and folders on the Desktop
If I display a photo on my Desktop as a Background the text will display a drop shadow which I don't want. When I select None for Background the shadow goes away
I cannot find anyplace in Display Properties to change this
What is really annoying is you could easily change color in previous versions of windows
Choice there is "Our way or no way"
Ok I am in Win2k and am not totally sure of this, cuz XP sucks... Ok, I think it is in your System Properties in the Advanced Tab and performance button. Something about Icon shadows or something.

Axle is right, go to your system properties, under the advanced tab theres a button for the Preformance settings. Its near the bottom of the the list!!
BTW - XP all the way!!

You are correct Sirs
I reinstalled XP for the 3rd time since Saturday and I now have black text instead of white text for the icons/folders/files on my Desktop
By the way I am now tri booting Win98, 2000 and now XP
Right now I have all my programs on 98 ( I had created an image file with DriveImage so it is easy to put everything back in about 7 minutes vs 6 hrs

You might try this, I have not used it myself except to extract ISO files from cd's

I use DriveImage to create my image/snapshot from www.powerquest.com
