Has NE1 found out how to stop or prevent XP from reminding you to activate? I do not believe MicroSloth when they say they will not gather any information from my system when I activate. I searched through the registry and turned up nothing!

Come on you intelligent mofo's...whatcha say?

just activate the fockin thing it takes 2 seconds
i've already upgraded a video and sound card and it didnt want me to re-register. You can upgrade up to six devices if you have the same nic card, but only four if you dont. According to "microfag" all your doing is sending strings of info of what type of items your using, not what they are by brand and type.

The activation on my new XP computer was done by the Computer Shop. But can you tell me please where the activation number is listed on my computer so I can record same in case I need it?
Thanks.

Rae

If it is on your computer it probably is embedded/encrypted so you can't find it. You end up calling Microsoft whenever you fdisk/reformat or change enough hardware, mboard, CPU, hard drive, etc.

If you believe that Microsoft will be gathering information then you can activate it over the telephone. To activate Windows XP over the telephone, you can simply call a toll-free number displayed on your screen. A customer service representative will ask for the installation ID number displayed on the same screen, enter that number into a secure database, and return a confirmation ID to you. Once you have typed the confirmation ID, the activation process is complete.

Agree with Andy-S, I reinstalled windows and had to reactivate, that worked with out calling but office xp I had to call, just gave them the number and they gave one to me, very easy and fool proof. You can even call to activate the first time you activate, for those in the dark ages and no internet connection. If you don't activate you will loose a lot of functionality of XP.

THIS IS FOR MEMBERS WHO HAVE A LEGIT COPY OF XP! TO AVIOD ACTIVATION SET YOUR SYSTEM CLOCK VIA CMOS SETUP TO DEFAULT AT 01/01/80 AND YOU CAN TOLERATE XP'S COMPLAINTS ABOUT INVALID DATE. IF YOU HAVE A DALLAS CHIP, REMOVE IT AND INSTALL A BACKUP BATTERY ON THE PC BOARD. TO PREVENT A REACTIVATION FROM FDISK OR HARDWARE UPGRADE ,BACKUP THE WPA.DBL FILE WHICH IS THE HARDWARE HASH CODE KEY AND RESTORE IT AFTER CHANGES ARE MADE. THERE IS NO WORKAROUND FOR THE ACTIVATION CODE KEY WHICH SHOULD NOT BE DEFEATED ANYWAY.

you fools. first off, activation does not snoop unless you check off register along with activation.

second, now that the key generator is out just get it and let it create a new key and use that to activate your XP if you do not want MS to know your real key which I don't get unless you have a pirated copy.
Look, I'm going to be honest here. I am using an XP I obtained and it is the MSDN Volume License version with no activation. Pretty sweet. But you know what the ironic thing is? I went back to WinME because I don't like some major things about XP. It's well built and all that but it's big and slow compared to Win9x.
