Tip: Removing Recycle Bin from Desktop
--------------------------------------
What's stated here applied in my case, your
experience may vary....
Like a lot of users out there, I too want a Desktop
uncluttered with icons. windows XP provided that but
the Recycle Bin icon.
Lurked around forums, etc., to find out if someone
had done it for me but... finally, found some but
with the Desktop icon gone, can't find an easier
way to clear the Recycle Bin.
So, armed with various tips from you guys, tried
the following and it turned out okay.
what to do:
1. Take out the Recycle Bin icon via
a. GPEDIT.MSC or
b. Regedit
You may have to logoff and logon again to effect
the clearing of the Desktop icon.
2. Create this folder on the Start Menu
Recycle Bin.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
After this step, you have the Recycle Bin on the
Start Menu but a right-click on the icon does not
show you "Empty Recycle Bin" in the context (have
to open it in a window to see it), so
3. Move the folder from Step2 to the Quick Launch Toolbar.
There, a right-click allows you to empty it just like
on the Desktop.
sure there must be a better, faster, and easier way to do
this so please post if you find it.
Thanks.
==========
UPDATE:
You can also do this:
Before deleting the desktop icon, drag a copy of it
into the Quick Launch toolbar. GO, delete the icon.
It has almost the same effect as the previous steps and
has a shorter name but you can't see the Recycle Bin
contents when you pause the cursor on it.
Take you pick...
Thanks again.
