i am maintaining a LAN at home. on the win2k box, there are 2 nic, one is a 3com 3c905b-tx while the other is a realtek 8139a.

the 3com card is used for internet connection, while the realtek card is used for the LAN. whenever the other computer is turned on, the win2k box will freeze. there is no BSOD whatsoever, it just freezes.

i've checked the device manager and there are no conflicts and its working properly.

can someone give me some advice on this? any help is appreciated.

Are you sure it's one of the network cards causing the problem? I.e. can you remove one or both and the machine starts working normally?

Basically to start with you're going to need to isolate the problem by removing hardware till it starts working correctly. Then you can try test combinations (e.g. does the realtek card work by itself but not when the 3com card is also installed). You could also try updating the drivers for both cards and search their web sites to see if there are any known issues.
