2 Machines.
1 with XP dual Nics, 1 card connected to dsl modem (DHCP)
the other card connected to machine number 2 with crossovercable and (Class C IP Adress).

Machine number 2 runs Windows 98.

But the machines don't see eachother or they can't connect to eachother. You can ping from the XP Machine but not the other.

Please check documentation (Help file) on the XP machine. As much J remember (J am not near my xp machine now), when running ICS the local clients require specific IP addresses out of 198.x.x.x address range. Possibly also use the "Home Network Setup" that comes with xp and lets you create a network setup diskette for other machines in the LAN.

I used the "Home Network Setup" from the XP CD and have main computer with XP and 56K modem connected to 2 Win98 computers without modems through a LinkSys 5 port 10/100 hub and also using ICS.
