I will be upgrading my dell notebook from win me to xp soon (computer built 8/8/01)
Any issues I should be aware of?
Should I place the paging file on its own partition on the drive?
Any comments/suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Windows XP should run fine on anything that can run Windows Me well. Just make sure you system has the minimum specs and it would be worth dropping by Dell's support site to check if there are any listed issues or updated drivers.
Placing the paging file on a separate partition probably won't give you much benefit, the only benefit usually achieved by moving the paging file is by putting it on a separate faster hard drive.

In the help /support menu, Microsoft suggests placing the page files in a different drive or partition then the system files. Theory is that placed in second drive allows quicker access ie each drive performing separate operation. You will find some comments on also breaking up the allocation for page files.
Suggest establishing a finished install prior to altering default settings.
For laptops, ram is the major consideration. XP does utilize ram, more the better.
