Using Windows 98SE w/IE: I would like to delete my temp files as I do my temporary internet files. Select all and delete. I attempted to do so, and received a warning that what I was doing was not acceptable (in so many words) and I had four minutes to correct it. I exited! Should I have continued, or was I conducting poor practice? The window I was working in was C:\Window\Temp - There are symbols, icons, arrows and other picture's I have no knowledge of. Some of which I guess would be considered computer language. The warning also alludes to cookies. Thanks,

Restart your computer and then go to temp files, select all and delete.
Doing so will ensure that none present are in use.

You won't be able to delete any that are currently in use, and the delete process will stop at that point.
Try resorting in date order, and deleting all not modified on today's date.

4 minutes, WOW, where'd that come from?
If the message said something like "this will impact the registed applications", simple ignore the warning and choose delete.
Microsoft Office creates a temporary folder named Vbe under the c:\windows\temp folder which sometiomes causes this.
As long as you didn't install programs to this directory (yes, novices have done this), it's perfectly safe to delete all files and folders.
Note: If you use McAfee Virus Scan, the webpoolfile cannot be deleted and it's nothing to worry about.

reghakr;
Thank you and the others for responding to my plight. I don't know where the four minute threat came from, but it sent me running. The wording was more like "the cookies folder is a system folder. If you delete it Windows & another program may not work correctly-Exe files deleted will hamper you from editing some documents". I know little enough about this subject, and I don't want to make it any more difficult. I truly appreciate the help afforded me. Thanks again,

Gotcha,
They are still safe to delete.
Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options, click the Settings button, then click the Move Folder button and click on c:\windows
Choose Yes to restart. Hopefully tour temporary internet files directory wilol be located at the C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 directory only.
