From another forum:
"Q:
I installed: How can I see if I have to activate?
A:
Put you bios date like 4 years forward and see what happens... (if winXP
locks you out
you had to activate)"

How do I put BIOS date 4 years forward? I tried looking at the setup screen when the comp boots up, but I could not find anything. Can you help me please?

PS. I had to press DLT for the setup screen.

"... How can I see if I have to activate..."
If you didn't activate yet, you will see shortly after login a baloon message from the systray Activation icon. As a user of the Administrators group, you will be asked if you wish to activate, all other users will be told to ask an Administrator to activate. The message contains the number of days remaining until the system locks up (forces activation before letting you continue).

You can also start the Activation app from Start > Programs > Accessories > System, if you have mad the activation it will tell you so. If activation is pending, you will be asked if you want to do it by web or by phone, and if by web if you wish do register personal information or simply run anonymous activation. You can drop out of this app if you want to run activation later on - you are not forced thru the process.

Hmm.... but when I installed my Windows XP, it never asked me if I want to activate, and can't seem to find any activation program in System Tools folder. Does that mean I do not/did not have to activate when I installed XP?

I head that you can test if I have to activate by changing my BIOS date about 4 years forward? How can I do that?

Windows XP activation is not needed if you have a copy of one of the business / enterprise licensing schemes.

Use the Date/Time applet in control panel, setting the date there will also set the bios date.
