When i restart my PC i get the error message "Invalid entry in MSDOS.SYS setting ORIG-DIAG-BOOT=0"
The system stops and after a cold reboot and scanreg/restore it starts normally the windows98SE that i run on my PC.After trying to restart again ,only hresults in the above problem to repeat itself.
l would like to know if i should change one of the numbers in config.sys,ie.one of the following:device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
Is it one of the numbers 1,850 or 044 that i have to change, or is it something else i should add,or delete from the file???
Or is it OK to erase the line from the MSDOS.sys file?Thats what i tried and also i unchecked the config.sys and the Autoexec.bat from the system config utility.and i restart the windows without these 2 files.It seems to work OK but i want to fix it so it wont become more complicated later.
Your help woul;d be much appreciated.
Best regards

Soilis,

Contents of the Windows Msdos.sys File

As to your question concerning the contents of your Config.sys file I am a little puzzled.

..."Country=044,850",C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
or
..."numbers 1,850 or 044"

Make file active again anyways and see if you have any problems.

Smitty has the answer to the msdos.sys file.

Regarding the config.sys file, on a Win98 machine, you don't need anythiung in the config.sys file. I would rename it to config.old, then open Windows Explorer, go to the root of the c: drive, right-click in the right pane, choose new>Text Document, name it config,.sys (ignore the error message) and restart your computer.

The only reasn for creating a blank one is that you won't receive an error if you go to Start>Run, and type sysedit.

how about using the system configuration utility?It created itself an empty config.sys when i uncheck the config.sys in msconfig.
\My question is if i can keep the windows 98SE working with the config.sys and the autoexec.bat files processed in booting.
Or do i need them for something?
Note that i run a lot of different software on my PC from games to utilities.Also i have TweakUI ,system mechanic and regcleaner installed.I tweaked my system with these.
After reinstalling windows 98SE from the CD last night it all runs smoothly.
But will it last????
