At rebooting my PC i get "Invalid STACKS in Config.sys".
I run Win98SE and i must say that even though i get the error message,when i scanreg/restore,it starts normally.After every restart though ,the same happens(the message appears,and i have to restore an old backup of registry in order to start the PC)How can i alter this setting?i cant see anything about stacks in config.sys.HELP!The contens of config sys are as follows:

device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
which do i change in order to stop the error?

you don't change any of these entries, but you should start Msconfig.exe from Start>Run menu. There you should find more startup options. Please note that Msconfig is now the preferred place to make changes, don't go directly for config.sys not autoexec.bat anymore.

thanks for the tip.I still would like to know if i should change one of the numbers in config.sys,ie.one of the following:device=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=044,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys
Is it one of the 1,850,044 or is it something else i should add,or delete from the file???
Your help woul;d be much appreciated.
Best regards

don't change these settings in config.sys, the device entry defines the console layout for dos mode, what the number 1 is J don't remember anymore and would need to look up. The country settings is 044 for your keyboard layout and the 850 is the language code page for display.

When J suggested you use msconfig, J assumed you might find a STACK= entry there. As much J remember the default settings is STACK=3 and should not be less. You could try and set it higher (5?) but J am not sure if this will help.

thanks Richard,unfortunatelly i did not know that and after changing the config.sys i had major disaster,and reinstalled windows98SE on top of the old onei had installed.I hope this is not going to create any more problems,so far ,(since last night) it works fine.Do you have any ideas about this?Or should i just leave it alone as long as it works,and i rethink about installing clean after some time,and after a problem comes up again.
Note i am using several utilities to maintain the PC(System mechanic,TwickUI,RegClean etc.) and i have managed to gewt it to a point it works relatively fast.
Anyway,thanks for your time and assistance
Keep in touch
Best regards
