Win media player

I used to have no problem viewing Mpg's and Avi's with Windows Media Player. Last week I did a reinstall, and now I cannot view them. When I go to play one, it plays for about 5 seconds before I get either a Blue Screen of Death with a fatal exception, or I get a GPF from winnmp. Both of which bring the machine to a crashing halt. It's very annoying, and doesn't make much sense as they used to work fine. I know it's not a codex issue either. Anyone have any info that might be of assistance to me ??

did you check microsofts update site for the lastest items after reinstall ?

Yep I did all of that.. Actually I found the problem, and I did so browsing around on this forum. Guess I should have looked around a little before posting. My video card is an Nvidia TNT 2, I was using Detonator 3 drivers with DX 8.0a... That's a no no apparently. I installed Det 4 drivers, and all seems ok now. Thanks for the reply though..
