running programs in systemtray

I have several programs running that I'm used to seeing in my system tray, but for some reason the icons representing the programs aren't showing in the system tray on occasion, even though they're running. Anyone have a fix for this one?

This is not a bug but a new XP feature.
XP will visually remove icons "without activity" from the systray (it does not kill execution). When this happens, you should have seen a baloon message appearing, explaining this.

When there are hidden icons, you will see a small icon like "<" in a circle at the left border of the systray, click on this and the hidden entries are shown.

This feature can be suppressed if you don't like it - check the Taskbar Setting (also available in the Control Panel).
