Hi,

This happened for no reason. Yesterday, everything was fine with my Internet connection before I shut down my computer and went to bed. The next morning I turned my system on and my Internet did not seem to work. Every time I tried to open a web page, I got this Page Cannot Be Displayed Message. No internet programs seemed to work either. I checked my modem (worked perfectly), Internet settings, Internet explorer settings, they all were working properly. But I could not renew IP though. I called my ISP to make sure that the line and modem are working, everything was tested and approved. I was not able to fix the problem with ISP over the phone, I noticed 1 thing though, if I UNPLUG my computer and make it do a scandisk before loading into Windows, the Internet starts to work again. But if I shut my computer "Normally", through Start Menu, The internet does not work! I am on Windows XP and have Cable connection provided my Optimum Online. Thank you for your time and I hope somebody will be alble to figure my problem out.

may more be a problem with IE6 (included in XP) rather than xp self, J sometimes have difficulties in Win2K for some unknown reasong (but J have now a special networking setup).

What helps in my case:
Open the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" window, right-click on your LAN entry used for cable access, choose Disable, then right-click again and choose Enable.

J really love MS, they change names from release to release.

You should be able to find "Network Connections" in the Control Panel. If it is not there, run a Repair installation of XP.

Thanx, I think the problem is solved now. This is what I did in my Ethernet adapter properties:

1) Disabled option "turn off device to save power"
2) Enabled 802.1p Support (Absolutely no idea what this is)
3) Did just what you said, disabled and then enabled my card.

1 more question about XP (I seem to have many problems with it ;) )

I am on a Vaio LCD monitor, when it is about to load windows (right after it sais "Welcome"), my screen turns off and then goes back on again. Same thing happens with some of my games, when it is about to load it, it will turn off the screen and then turn it back on... it might even do that a couple of times. It never happened with Winodws 98. Whats up with that? ... will it damage my LCD?

"...will it damage my LCD..."
hardly - had it been a CRT, then J would be wondering too (but remember, J am not a hardware technician).

All this switching on and off has to to with setting or resetting the graphics adapter. From my observation, during boot this has usually to do with changing the screen resolution. Hardware starts probably with the good old IBM PC standard of 640x480, switches then to VGA/SVGA mode for the graphic boot phase, switches then to the resolution set for the Default user account (or possibly that of the original Admin account), and then with login to the users resolution.

What happens during gaming J cannot give any advice.

Have you been able to get special drivers from the Sony web site for XP ? Actually, which xp version is this happening on (J don't remember if you mentioned it somewhere)?

Well.... I am on XP Professional Final, and I do not think Sony will have special drivers for me, and my warranty has expired a year ago. I am using ATI, I went to their website and downlaoded latest drivers, but it didn't change anything. I guess it will not do anything mad to my display, since it is an LCD.

actually J was wondering if it would work out - the site was labelled "XP beta" and was from Apr01 if J remember properly. Sony possibly has had the opportunity to add their drivers to the final XP product.

for the time beeing J don't know where to look for more help.

Experience has only started to build up on XP, but if you match up your registry against Win2000 settings, and you find the same keys, chances are good, that tweaks work too on XP. Better have the System Restore feature active before you try a tweak, so that you can roll back.

Please report your findings - especially the negative ones - to the webmaster Simon Clausen - thank you.

I worked at Sony DSM for 2 years in Rancho Bernardo, Maybe I can help w/ monitor. What model is it? Write ALL the info on the sticker on the back, too. We had a prob. with the ASIC's on the LCD screens. What kind of Video card and does it sync on green or off of the H_sync?
