I've been strugling with this for a few days but it just won't poerdown my computer. I've tried the ACPI setting in the device manager....all good there. Looked for APM in power options, but it's not there.
Can anyone help with this?

Try this site http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnxp.htm
It was linked from the site http://www.xp-erience.org/ in Waddy's post earlier.
Hope it helps.

I have a Tiny 400mhz P11 PC, that I upgraded to Windows XP, I to have had problems with the Automatic shut down. I don't know if this will help you, I resolved this issue by installing the NT APM Legicy support from the Add new Hardware function.
This is how I did it. When prompted by the add new hardware select device already connecected
then scroll down the list to install new hardware, this is at the botom of the list
Select the advanced option 'install hardware I select'
from the list select NT APM/Legecy support
this puts the APM tab in the power options in control pannel.
Hope this helps.
