I recently installed ME on my computer I previously was running win98 and everything worked perfectly. Now in ME when I try to open up a media file like mpeg, avi, anything that displays moving pictures my computer locks up I have 288mb of memory a athlon 700mhz computer with a 20gig hard drive so I have the power to spare but I cannot play any movie clips without lockup I have formated and reinstalled, downloaded all updates got the latest drivers, flashed my bios, smacked bill gates even (just kidding), I have no ideas left so if anybody out there has a really good idea short of erasing windows and going to linux let me know I will greatly appreciate it. And by the way my computer is from gateway if that makes a differance.

J consider your question to be a general installation problem, and not a question that could be solved with a registry setting. That why J moved this thread. Hope somebody will pick up your question here. You could also consider General Hardware forum if you think your question is more hardware related.

Have you tried ANY of the Detonator Drivers from NVIDIA? They are the best drivers for these cards. I have the exact same card desighned for Gateway systems. I used EVERY driver I could think of. lots of lockups with Win2K> Then I downloaded the Detonator Drivers and since then I have not have any issues. You can get them from:

Hey butchrecon thanks for the tip but no luck I tried the detonator drivers and all it did was reduce my colors to 16 and 640 x 480 and would not go 32 bit color 600 x 800 and ME displayed a message saying that the driver was not working with the card so I am out of tricks I think I'm going to throw ME away and get win 2k might have better luck unless there is something else to try I'm more than willing to try and hey I'm A+ and I will be microsoft certified professional later this year but right now I'm getting Cisco but if you know of anything else that might work or video cards that will for sure work let me know and I'll demand a new card from gateway if I can.

I would advise against disabling DirectDraw and Direct3d, as these "features" are almost essential to any video related display on windows9x... on Windows ME they are ABSOLUTELY essential. WinME comes with DirectX 8 as standard, so I'd advise doing 2 things:
1. Go to NVidia.com and dowload the latest Detonator 4 (NOT 3) drivers to your hard disk.
2. Use the Windows update to download and install directX 8.0a (if its not available go to "http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Update/8.0a/W9XMe/EN-US/DX80eng.exe" and download and install the drivers.
3. When the computer has restarted, remove the uninstall the current Graphics drivers via add/remove programs. (Do not retart the computer).
4. Install the new drivers, and restart the computer.
This should clear up the TNT2 display problem and the Detonator 4 should work perfectly with DirectX 8.0a.
Thanks, David.
