I have the following problem with windows millenium.
Under the context file-new menu accessed via either a right click or through explorer, there should be a list of shortcuts available to create a new txt file, html file, winzip file etc etc, but this is not the case, for some reason only the option to create a new folder and shortcut are listed.
The second problem is that files are not added to the recent document menu on the start bar.
I have tried searching for people with the same problem but could not find anything, i have looked through the registry but found nothing. I have checked all the options and every thing is right.
I have looked at tweakUI and under the "new" tab, all the programs that should be viewable are ticked but they do not appear under the context menu.
If anyone can help please reply.
have you tried uninstalling tweak UI

Navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\ShellNew
What's listed?

It's normal, nothing to worry about.
Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
For the document to appear in the right-click context menu, the 3-letter extension has to be listed inder this key and have an additional key named ShellNew. If you find entries namd ShellNew-, right-click on them, choose rename and remove the - from the end of the ShellNew name.
How many do you have and do some reflect the entries in the C:\WINDOWS\ShellNew folder?
What are the names of the programs you believe should be listed?

I should have about 12 programs listed, for example New Text Document, New Html Page, none of the files listed in shellNew reflect these programs. The registry setting all say shellNew for the programs that are supposed to appear.

Do you have this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew
In the right pane window you should see:
(Default) (value not set)
NullFile ""

I don't get it either.
How about re-installing TweakUI, choose the New tab and drag an empty document into the window. It should create a new document template.
Go here to learn more about TweakUI:

Tired that, i cant uninstall tweakUI as it is not listed. Placing a new template results in no change. Looking like a re-install is the only option.

is what you said earlier.
Go to Start>Run, and type:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallInfSection DefaultUninstall 4 c:\windows\Inf\Tweakui.inf

c:\windows\Inf\Tweakui.inf
Tweakui.inf is not present under that directory, it is listed under c:\windows\System\Tweakui.inf, should i put this path in, instead?
