Cd rom eject buttons not working

Any ideas how I can get my DVD ROM Creative and two Plextor CDRWs to notice when I press the eject buttons. I can eject the CD's by clicking on eject in the properties page, but not the easiest way, using the button on the front of the drive. I think it's a security "feature" probably, but would like to turn it off.
