I installed and ran the Regcleaner 4.3 program. I later discovered all of my programs are missing in Add-Remove, and they are not under the uninstall tab in Regcleaner like they should be. I have Windows 95B. I still have all of my programs, but this is a catastrophe! I have no other problems after running the program. I need to uninstall my AOL software today!! I have setup disks, but sure wouldn't know which one to use, or how to even go about it. Is there a way to get them back in there without having to reinstall? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

search the aol folders and you should find an uninstall file and that should uninstall it for you and as for the other i would contact the creater of the software that screwed you and ask them if that program made a back up before it deleted it as i am un familiar with that program

This can occur if a install program creasted a name longer than 63 characters.
Go to Start>Run, type regedit, hit Enter. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

Click on the subfolders and look for a string value greater than 63, export the key. Before you delete the key, check the folder off the Startbutton for an uninstall icon for the specific program. If one doesn't exist, you can right-click on the UninstallString, choose modify and copy the path information to the clipboard. Now right-click on the Desktop and choose new>Shortcut and paste the info in this box. Name it Uninstall (*the name of the program*) Now you have a way to uninstall the program again.

Someone on another board told me there should be AOLUNINS.EXE, which I have located. I think my original message may be confusing, I need to proofread. I now have a way to uninstall the AOL prog., but the problem remains that even though I restored the registry, (I took the option to make a backup copy) it didn't restore my Add-Remove programs! I got no error messages after running Regcleaner, so it looks like this must be a bug in the program. My only problem is what I stated previously. I have a number of Windows backup copies, a whole set (30) floppies, my McAfee scanner created backups, and my Winzip zipped them! I was surprised at that. Now if I could find out from a Tech how to locate whatever it is I need to fix that. I surely need my Add - Remove with all my programs listed. Thank you for your input.

Have you actually went to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

and verified it is blank?

No, I haven't as yet, but I have no problems with the Registry. No error messages; I did restore the registry to see if this would resolve the problem. I still need my programs displayed in Add-Remove. All of my programs are functioning fine. I am posting a new message; to others that may have Regcleaner installed. Thank you I will check out your suggestion

Does RegCleaner not create a backup that can be re-merged?

Yes, It does if you choose. Restoring the backups did not fix the prob. with Add-Remove, but restored the registry just fine.

It is not blank, and I have no problems with my registry or any of my programs running. They haven't been uninstalled, they just don't appear in the Add-Remove programs window. Thanks

I think I misunderstood you, when you said to check and see if the uninstall string was blank. I must have checked the wrong place, because there is NOTHING in the Uninstall folder. HKEY-LOCAL MACHINE under Windows/software, etc. as you mentioned. I apologize for my ignorance! Also, I've had so many different suggestions, that my head was swimming!

I did see all my programs listed in the Registry before, but got the impression that people think my Registry is messed up. I s'pose it is if there are s'posed to be programs listed there, and there aren't?

I've been studying on the whole matter, and have gotten to the point where I think I need to learn how to extract the file I need out of my Cabs folder. (YIKES!) I know which file refers to the Add-Remove Prog. Do you think this is what is necessary?

Thank you very much for your help!

Most of these entries pertain to 3rd party software you have installed. One possibility is that hopefully an uninstall icon was created in the folder for the program group off Start>Programs>PROGRAM GROUP NAME.

Do a search for IE_EXTRA in the registry. It should be listed in two places. Post back where you located it.

I've just been able to get back to this board for first time in a week. I've gone beyond my Add-Remove programs problem now. I have found out my Windows Program is damaged. I had several of my programs show up in Add-Rem., but now my Sound Properties is empty.

I'll spare you some details, but now it is a matter of reinstalling my Windows Program. As my I.E. program cannot be repaired or reinstalled, but is damaged. It will be easier to reinstall Windows than deal with all these other problems.

Thank you for your help, and I apologize for not getting back to you. Don't know why I've been unable to get to this site, but not others??

I am now having the EXACT same problem. My entries exist under the proper registry location, but none show up when I go Start>Settings>Add/Remove Programs. Is there a value I can change or something easy like that instead of re-installing my OS??

Hi,

I'm doubt that I'm the one to help you with this problem! :) I don't know the answer to that question.

I have encountered new problems now, because I went to DOS and starting keying in commands to locate my Registry backup. Now, several of my Programs show in Add-Remove, but my sound properties is BLANK! Plus, I.E. still doesn't show there, although the latest programs I've installed do.

Not that you need to hear all that.....But if you want to search further, go to ZDnets forums, the Windows 95 one. Look for the posts on Add-Remove Programs is BLANK! Also posts referring to Regcleaner 4.3; I had many suggestions.

I don't know what OS you have, but be sure to check the right forum, if it applies.

As for me, I would rather reinstall my OS, since that may correct other problems I'm having. Not being able to repair or uninstall I. E. 5.5 is a sign my OS is bad. That's where I'm at now.

Hope you have better luck than I did!

Carol
